Barn weddings shift lighting three times: bright daylight through open barn doors, warm tungsten string lights at dinner, and near-darkness on the dancefloor. You need a fast prime and a body with clean ISO 12,800 — the barn is warmer than a ballroom but darker than most creators expect.

What the venue actually gives you.
- Lighting
- String bistro lights (2,700K) + daylight through barn doors (5,500K) during dinner. Lock WB at 3,200K after sunset.
- Movement
- Wide open, but wood floors and dinner tables constrain your path.
- Audio
- Wooden acoustics are surprisingly good for toasts. Feed the venue PA if there is one, or run a lav on the toast microphone.
- Timing
- Reception 4–6 hours, transitioning from cocktail-hour daylight to full dark by first dance.

Do string lights provide enough light for barn wedding video?
For wide reception establishers, yes. For faces and reactions, add a small on-camera LED (Aputure MC or MT Pro). Shooting at f/1.4 with a full-frame body helps but doesn't fully solve it.
